Hurricane Stan

Hurricane Stan
On October 3 rd “Stan” hit the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and moved quickly to Chiapas and the surrounding area where it became a ferocious tropical storm. The torrential rains continued in the area for several days causing terrible flooding, rivers overflowing and mudslides.

Hurricane Wilma

Hurricane Wilma
Hurricane “Wilma” slammed the coasts of Cancún and the Yucatán Peninsula for almost three days and has been the worst in the zone's history reaching up to level 5 (maximum level according to the Safire-Simpson categories). The hurricane affected more than 75 communities and its winds almost entirely destroyed the educational, touristic and commercial infrastructure of the Yucatán region. Cancún was left without hospitals, all the hotels were left abandoned and heavily damaged and communication lines were wiped out. Many miles of the region's characteristic beaches have disappeared off the map.
